ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ, ಆಹ್ವಾನದ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ನಾನು ಪ್ರಯೋಗಾತ್ಮಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಟಾರ್ಚು ನೋಡಿದೆ. ಸುಮಾರು ಎರಡುವರೆ ಗಂಟೆಗಳ ಕಾಲ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಆವರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಅನುಭವ ಅದು.
ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದು 2020 ಮತ್ತು 2021ರ ನಡುವೆ ಮಾನವಕುಲ ಎದುರಿಸಿದ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟಗಳತ್ತ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿದಂತೆ ಅನುಭವವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಭಾವನಾತ್ಮಕ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಗೆ ಕೃತಕವಾಗಿ ನೋವು ತುಂಬುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ, ಸಹಜವಾಗಿ ಕಥೆ ಮುಂದುವರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.
ಕಥೆ, ಚಿತ್ರಕಥೆ, ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ದೇಶನ..ಈ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮೂಲದ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ, ಕಥೆಗಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಲೇಖಕ ವೀರನಾರಾಯಣ ನಿಭಾಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಸರಳ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ಹೊಂದಿದವರಾದರೂ, ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿನ ಅವರ ಚುಟುಕು ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯಭರಿತ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆ ಅವರ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಮುಖವನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಈ ಕಥೆ ನಾಲ್ವರ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಸುತ್ತ ಸಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವರು ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದು ತಿಳಿಯದೆ ನಡೆಯಲು ಆರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಚಿತ್ರ ಮುಂದುವರಿದಂತೆ, ಏಕಾಂತ, ಸಹನಶೀಲತೆ ಮತ್ತು ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಹೋರಾಟಗಳ ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರು ಚಿಂತಿಸಲು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿತರಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಈ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ನಮ್ಮದೇ ಜೀವನದ ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬವಾಗಿರಬಹುದು ಎಂಬ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರೂ ಏಕಾಂಗಿಗಳೇ; ಹೋರಾಟಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಚಿತ್ರ ಮುಗಿದಾಗ ಆದಿ ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ—ಯಾರೂ ಯಾರದ್ದೂ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಒಂದು ಮೃಗತ್ರಿಷ್ಣೆಯಷ್ಟೇ.
ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಅಂಶ ಅದರ ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಹಣ. ಹಲವೆಡೆ ಇದು ಕಥನಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ ಮೀರಿದ ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ. ಭಾವನಾತ್ಮಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಥನಾತ್ಮಕ ತೀವ್ರತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ್ ಸಾಗರ್ ಅವರ ಕ್ಯಾಮೆರಾ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಶ್ಲಾಘನೆಗಳು ಸಲ್ಲಬೇಕು. ಕಡೂರು, ಮಧುಗಿರಿ, ತುಮಕೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಅಷ್ಟು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಹಿಡಿದಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಅವುಗಳೇ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವಂತೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಲ ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದೃಶ್ಯಕಥನವೇ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಎತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯುತ್ತದೆ.
ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವಿಶೇಷತೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಸಿಂಕ್ ಸೌಂಡ್ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿರುವುದು. ಕೇಳುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಧ್ವನಿಗಳೂ ಮೂಲದಲ್ಲೇ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿವೆ. ಹಾಡುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಡಬ್ಬಿಂಗ್ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ವೀರನಾರಾಯಣ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ ಸಂಗೀತ (BGM) ಬಳಸಿಲ್ಲ. ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ತ್ವರಿತವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ, ನಿಧಾನವಾದ ಬದುಕಿನ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. 68 ದಿನಗಳ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದ ಅವಧಿಯ ನಿಧಾನಗತಿಯ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯಲು ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ನಿರೂಪಣೆ ಸಹಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಅನೇಕ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆಗಳು ಸಂಕೇತಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿವೆ.
ಬಾಲ ಕಲಾವಿದೆ ಪ್ರಾಶ್ವಿತಾ ಎಚ್.ಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪರದೆಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ಅವಳ ಪೋಷಕರು—ಹರಿ ಸಮಾಶ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಿಷಾ ಯಶ್ ರಾಮ್—ಚಿತ್ರದ ಆರಂಭದಿಂದ ಅಂತ್ಯದವರೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಭಾವಶಾಲಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕರಾದ ಇವಾರಾ ಕಂಬೈನ್ಸ್ ತಂಡದ ಯುವ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಮತ್ತು ವೀರನಾರಾಯಣ ಅವರ ಅನುಭವವೂ ಹೊಸಬರದ್ದೇ ಆದರೂ, ಚಿಂತನೆಗೆ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸುವ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ದೂರದರ್ಶನ ಚಂದನ, ಕೆವಿ ಸುಬ್ಬಣ್ಣ ಅಪ್ತ ರಂಗ ಮತ್ತು ಸುಚಿತ್ರ ಫಿಲ್ಮ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿದೆ. ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದ ಅನೇಕ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಶಂಸೆಗಳು ದೊರಕಿವೆ. ಈಗ ಇದನ್ನು ಯೂಟ್ಯೂಬ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಯೋಜನೆ ಇದೆ.

SUMMARY:
Torchu, a journey to remember
Recently, I watched the experimental Kannada movie Torchu at an invitation. It was an
engrossing, nearly two-and-a-half hours for me.
Watching the movie was like traveling back to the hardships that mankind faced between
2020 and 2021. Fortunately, there is no laboured effort to inject pathos feelings to make
an emotional appeal. The story, screenplay, dialogue, and direction are by Veeranarayan,
a Bengaluru-based journalist, scriptwriter, and author. He is an unassuming person with a
multi-talented personality. He is a man of few words. But his witty and sarcastic
dialogues in the movie portray the other side of him.
The whole story revolves around a family of four who begin walking—without knowing
where to. As the film unfolds, viewers are prompted to reflect on themes of isolation,
resilience, and personal struggle. The narrative suggests that the family's journey could be that of the viewers as well. The universal truth in life's journey is everyone is alone, though the battles may be different. When the movie ends, it reminds the wise words of Saint Shankaracharya – none belongs to anyone and relationships are an illusion.
There is one striking feature of this movie—its cinematography. It surpasses the narration
at many places. It enhances the emotional and narrative impact of the film.
Hats off to Prashanth Sagar for his camera work. The beauty of Kadur, Madhugiri, Tumakuru, and the surroundings have been captured so well that they too narrate the story alongside the screenplay. At times, the visual narration elevates the overall cinematic experience, occasionally surpassing other aspects of the film.
Another appreciable feature of Torchu is the adoption of sync sound technology. The
sounds heard are all original. Songs were recorded live on location without dubbing,
Veeranarayan says. No BGM is used in the entire cinema. The director is not in a rush to
narrate the story or to give a logical end to the journey. Because the actual distress period
of 68 days had enforced a slow physical life. There is an effort to capture the same mood.
Many actions and dialogues are symbolic.
The child artist Prashvitha HK and her screen parents—Hari Samashti and Nisha Yash
Ram—occupy the screen space from the beginning to the end.
What has been the experience of Veeranarayana and the young members of Ivara
Combines, the producers? It is no different from any newcomers to the field with the
intention of making thought-provoking cinema. It has been screened by Doordarshan
Chandana, KV Subbanna Apta Ranga, and Suchitra Film Society. The movie has been
receiving accolades from film personalities. Now the plan is to host it on YouTube.
